Gap Year New Zealand :: essentials :: coach and bus

Coach and Bus Travel

The bus and coach networks in New Zealand are extensive and this is certainly the most popular way for travellers to get around.

You can choose to buy single journey tickets which give you complete independence, which is a great option for those on a tight budget. You can also buy bus/coach flexi passes which allow you to hop-on and hop-off whenever you want. These passes can be purchased with a specific route in mind, or for unlimited travel. For more details on some of the main providers take a look at these websites:

Intercity Coach line (www.intercity.co.nz) – offers single journeys and passes for their extensive network.
Kiwi Experience (www.kiwiexperience.com) – Hop-on, hop-off bus passes.
Flexi-Pass (www.flexipass.co.nz) – Flexible coach passes valid for 12 months.
Stray Travel (www.straytravel.com) – Flexible bus passes, day tours and overnight stays.
Northliner Express(www.northliner.co.nz) Frequent buses around the North Island.
Atomic Shuttles (www.atomictravel.co.nz) – Provides bus services for the South Island.
